Rescue Horses and
Special Needs Horses

This page began because of a plea from a Texas rescue organization member (Lone Star Equine Rescue) who is promoting barefootedness among the other members.  It is possible that some of these horses are not yet barefoot, but this member
asked if they coul dbe listed in the hope that they will go to people committed to barefooting their  horses.

If you are affiliated with a rescue organization or are an individual who rescues horses and seek adoptors
who are committed to barefoot, send an email with photo attachment (if you have a photo) to Tribe Equus

UPDATE: 01/21/08 - PLACED!! ALL 4 FOUND GOOD HOMES!
Posted: 11-06-07

I am trying to find homes for four miniature horses I rescued almost 3 years ago.  I love it if they could stay together or at least in pairs, they have been through enough already.  They have to have 24/7 turnout, consistent barefoot trims, grass hay, and somone who is kind and patient, preferably with natural horsemanship training.  Serious inquiries only at Comgabrielle@aol.com. They are all in their winter woolies already, all four slick out beautiful in the spring.  E-mail me for more information.

This is Rik-O-Shea, he will turn 3 years old on St. Patricks day, 2008. He is one of the hooligans, very brave, very smart, and in to everything.  His mom Faith was pregnant with him when I rescued her.  I started a little parelli with him, very little but he thinks it is great fun, he comes when called, and follows you around like a dog.

This is Rain she will turn 5 years old in 2008, she is very curious , and very sweet. She is a very easy keeper, and gains weight easily.  She loves to be groomed, she a very long mane that she loves to have brushed.

This is Cloud, he will turn 4 in 2008, he is another hooligan, very smart, started with a little parelli also, and he loves it, gets bored very easily, thinks everything is a game, and wants you to always chose him.

This is Faith, she is the mother of the above three hoolingans.  She is sweet, still a little timid, but better all the time, she's absolutely gorgeous with a beautiful head, the vet guessed she is around 9 years old. She was used as a broodmare and constantly pregnant.  She is to never be bred again, ever!!!

FREE!!!  NEEDS GOOD HOME ASAP!!

My name is Alicia Bernard and I took in a horse a
few months ago that was been starved and severely
deprived of everything essential he needs in life! I
had not planed on keeping him and really can not with hay and would like to donate him to an organization or private home!

He is 15'2 hands and a bay. I have since found he has cataracts in both eyes!!!! He is only 5 and deserves a chance! He does not require any medications and is not in pain. He has been to two
vets for his condition and it is permanent. He has
apparently been blind either since or close to his
birth as he is not spooky at all! He listens to you
and responds well. You can touch him all over and do anything to him! I would love to donate him or if you know anyone that can help in any way I would love to hear back form you! I need to place him ASAP!!

He is extremely gentle and calm. I have put a donkey with him right now to keep him company! He leads, ties, loads in a stock trailer and other wise acts like a normal horse! He is free to a good home that understands he is blind. Thank you for your time and I hope to hear back from you! I can send additional pictures of him also if you would like!

Thank you!!!

Strings Attached!
9 y.o. bay Quarter Horse gelding by Blue Max.  "Max" is 1 year post-founder and doing beautifully--almost fully healed and transitioned.  Gorgeous, sweet, quiet and gentle, he would make an excellent trail horse (bombproof!) for an advanced beginner or intermediate rider who just wants to have a horse to love and enjoy light riding.  He has excellent basics and was started according to dressage principals.  Although sound at walk and trot, a stifle issue prevents Max from doing much canter or circle work... this is why I consider him a special needs horse.  In addition, Max has been diagnosed as insulin resistant--he will always at risk for laminitis reoccurence and thus will always need to be fed a restricted diet (low starch/sugar feeds and grass hay, no treats) and VERY limited, restricted grazing.  Barefoot with frequent natural trims is a MUST.

Although Max is a beloved family horse, I am only able to keep one horse at a time and would like to be able to do more (jumping, etc.), so my dilemma should be obvious!  I realize that since it is hard to place such a special needs horse, I am willing to sell him for a token amount to the right home.   I would also insist that if whomever buys him was no longer able to care for him according to the aforementioned specifications, we would have first right of refusal to buy him back.

Java is a 15 year old 16.3hh Bay Thoroughbred Gelding in need a good companion home.
Due to an injury to his left fore ankle Java can no longer hold the weight of a rider.   I am looking for a good home where he can spend the rest of his years in retirement just hanging out.  My paddocks are to hilly and rocky for him to be comfortable.   He does require to be on a joint supplement due to the injury.  He is well mannered and likes pretty much every horse he has met.  He adores ponies but is afraid of small dogs.
I am looking for a home where I will be free to visit him and if his placement home is no longer able to care for him, he will come back to me.    Please email me for more information,
Bonnie

This Four Bid Josic, a registered Appaloosa. She is 14 years old. I've had her since she was a baby. She has been shown dressage, jumpers, hunter, even did some judges trails and western. Always perfectly mannered. But unfortunately she has come down with Moonblindness. She is blind in one eye and may be losing sight in the other eye. I can not keep her at my farm. She has been running into the fence. I have an older baby and I am afraid when she is walking about getting hurt by Josie. I am trying to find a home for her that is equipped for a blind horse. She does need inflammatory meds. during flare ups. She is otherwise in perfect health. She is barefoot and never has a leg or feet problems. If she does not lose her sight in the other eye she could still be rideable in a ring or someplace secure. But she could become totally blind. There are some people that still ride them, with her dressage background she is very sensitive to the seat and leg but I really do not what kind of future she could have. My only other alternative at this time is to put her down for safety of all involved. She is located in Spotsylvania county in Va. I can be emailed at Criverbendfarm@hotmail.com
