Rehab Horses

Needs His Own Special Person
UPDATE: 02/28/08 - PLACED!! FOUND GOOD HOME!
Posted: 1-08-08

I am looking for a special person for this special, special boy. His name is Evolution (Lou or Louie) for short.  He will be 9 yrs old this year.  I took him after some people didn't know what else to do with him after he was diagnosed navicular.  He has been barefoot now for 3 years and out 24/7, and he has gotten a lot better.  I have been able to do some light riding on him and started some groundwork, his feet have come a long way, but he just keep improving.  The place I board him and my other horses is going to be sold and I have been working there in exchange for board and cannot afford to board them out.  He is very, very low in the pecking order and will get picked on by easily.  He really needs his own person. I have started some natural horsemanship with him and he is very, very good at it.  He can walk, trot, canter in the pasture and looks great.  Sometimes he still looks a little off, but most of time he moves around great.  He is by no means completely healed but he is ready to start doing some light work, and would love to have his own person who could slobber over him.  If you are interested in him and would like to know anything more about him, please e-mail me at Comgabrielle@aol.com.  He is located in Illinois near Aurora.

UPDATE: 01/21/08 - PLACED!! ALL 4 FOUND GOOD HOMES!
Posted: 11-06-07

I am trying to find homes for four miniature horses I rescued almost 3 years ago.  I love it if they could stay together or at least in pairs, they have been through enough already.  They have to have 24/7 turnout, consistent barefoot trims, grass hay, and somone who is kind and patient, preferably with natural horsemanship training.  Serious inquiries only at Comgabrielle@aol.com. They are all in their winter woolies already, all four slick out beautiful in the spring.  E-mail me for more information.

This is Rik-O-Shea, he will turn 3 years old on St. Patricks day, 2008. He is one of the hooligans, very brave, very smart, and in to everything.  His mom Faith was pregnant with him when I rescued her.  I started a little parelli with him, very little but he thinks it is great fun, he comes when called, and follows you around like a dog.

This is Rain she will turn 5 years old in 2008, she is very curious , and very sweet. She is a very easy keeper, and gains weight easily.  She loves to be groomed, she a very long mane that she loves to have brushed.

This is Cloud, he will turn 4 in 2008, he is another hooligan, very smart, started with a little parelli also, and he loves it, gets bored very easily, thinks everything is a game, and wants you to always chose him.

This is Faith, she is the mother of the above three hoolingans.  She is sweet, still a little timid, but better all the time, she's absolutely gorgeous with a beautiful head, the vet guessed she is around 9 years old. She was used as a broodmare and constantly pregnant.  She is to never be bred again, ever!!!

My name is Alicia Bernard and I took in a horse a
few months ago that was been starved and severely
deprived of everything essential he needs in life! I
had not planed on keeping him and really can not with hay and would like to donate him to an organization or private home!

He is 15'2 hands and a bay. I have since found he has cataracts in both eyes!!!! He is only 5 and deserves a chance! He does not require any medications and is not in pain. He has been to two
vets for his condition and it is permanent. He has
apparently been blind either since or close to his
birth as he is not spooky at all! He listens to you
and responds well. You can touch him all over and do anything to him! I would love to donate him or if you know anyone that can help in any way I would love to hear back form you! I need to place him ASAP!!

He is extremely gentle and calm. I have put a donkey with him right now to keep him company! He leads, ties, loads in a stock trailer and other wise acts like a normal horse! He is free to a good home that understands he is blind. Thank you for your time and I hope to hear back from you! I can send additional pictures of him also if you would like!

Thank you!!!

I need to find a good home for Alo (means "Spiritual Warrior" in Sioux).  He has healthy barefeet.  He is a registered 14.1 hand Arabian (Al-Marah bloodlines) gelding, foaled 5/30/96.

I've just owned him 6 mos, but the woman I bought him from owned him from birth, and said he had a wire injury to his hind legs at about 2 yo.  His LH fetlock is the most severe, and he is currently not rideable.  The LH fetlock joint has alot of old scar tissue, is mis-shapen, and the joint holds alot of fluid.

He eats great, and still runs, bucks and plays.  I need to find a home where he will have a large turn-out and remain barefoot, both are crucial to his well being.  He would probably do best in a mild climate, as he is already showing signs of arthritis.

Although he may improve to be ridden again someday (he is gentle, calm and well-trained), he will never be completely sound (opinion of the vet, chiro and equine touch practitioner who I've had examine him).

I am located in N AZ. Email: reallykk@infomagic.net

I am seeking a boarding facility for my 23 year old Galiceno pony mare. She has been receiving the barefoot trim for many years, but was foundered last winter on rich alfalfa hay. She has recovered well, but needs to live in extensive pasture suitable for a foundered pony (dominated by warm season bunch grasses and a variety of substrates). She will only be happy living
with a herd. I cannot find such a home for her near my own home in eastern Illinois. I am willing to maintain responsibility for her and pay board for her care, but I am looking for someone who would watch over her as if she belonged to them, since I will be so far away. You can email me for more information and photos at: prairiewaves@insightbb.com

We have an 11 year old Arabian gelding that needs to go to a new home.  He has been barefoot for about 3 years, but we are just now educating ourselves in proper barefoot trimming.  Ziggy Zamboni is a 15.3 hand bright chestnut that was purchased as a 4 year old to be my husbands next endurance mount. Zig did 3 CTR as a 5 year old and did very well.  Unfortunately, in November 1996, he managed to crack his right front navicular bone while racing his buddy in the pasture.  He came back and even did another 25 mile CTR a couple years later, but we feel he will not stay sound under the rigors of heavy riding.  He has been sound for the past couple years, but doesn't get ridden.  Ziggy needs to find a home with someone willing to work at retraining him for show or light trail riding.  He is a pleasant horse to be around, likes people, but does require an experienced rider as he is rather "reactive" to his surroundings!  We are willing to give him to a good home, preferably one that is willing to keep him barefoot. Zig lives in SE Iowa.

I have a 3-4 year old grade gelding in need of a permanent home. He is bay with a blaze face and one white sock, and about 15.3 hands. He is currently lame and has severe tendon damage to the left front leg. The following link will take you to a web page with more information on his leg problems. http://annalar16.tripod.com/aboutbarefootedhorses/id3.html   He has had some additional work on his hooves since this photos, but he still needs more foot work. He is a nice horse, but has been abused and needs more work than I can give him. (Note: He does lead and he accepts a saddle, but he has never been ridden here.) He is also very low in the pecking order in my herd and is getting pushed around by my other horses. He would do best in a one to two horse family. I have additional pictures of him at the following website. These are older photos and I will be getting new and better ones soon.
http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/barefootedhorses/lst then look for the album titled Scarface.
I am asking $500 for him (or make an offer) I will require a short painless questionnaire to weed out killer buyers.

AQHA 4 year old gelding needs a new home and special hoof care.

The owner purchased this young registered gelding a few months ago and sent him to training. Received a call that he was lame. Vet w/x-rays could not determine exact problem but thinks it's early stages of navicular, although navicular bone looks good, according to vet.  Possible sidebone, too.

Corrective shoeing has been recommended to this woman but she said she would be willing to GIVE him to the right person who is willing to care for him and do the natural trim/barefoot rehab. He is currently barefoot.

She said he is very sweet and has been started under saddle.  Because of  time constraints and her strong interest in barrel racing, she didn't think she could keep him.

He is located in northern California and anyone can inquire by emailing her at this address: kkadlecek@aesa.com

Need to find home for older TB mare

We impulse bought her at a killer sale last winter and have been trying to rehab her feet since spring using the barefoot trim. She is doing much better, but still has a long way to go. She had been wearing shoes with pads for who knows how many years and the bars are horribly crushed and mingled with the sole- basically everything that could go wrong, except
laminitus. She has been barefoot and kept in a large pasture for the past 4 months and her movement is getting better.

She is about 20 years old and healthy in all other ways. She is at least 16  hands, big boned, large kind eyes, blood bay with a wonderfully thick mane & tail. She appears to have some dressage training and is very quiet and easy to handle. Apparently, she spent some time at the track as a partial tatoo is visible. Earlier this summer, she worked with a disabled child
and did well - but who knows how she will be once her feet feel better.

We would like to find her a home where someone could give her the care she needs to get her feet right. I currently have over 12 horses that I am caring for and just can't keep up with all of them - seems like I am always behind on my trimming and I work at it daily. I am looking towards winter and seeing that I have to downsize or the horses just won't be getting what
they need. I am desperately hoping to keep her from a home that would want  to put her in eggbar shoes or some such contraption.

I also have a 33+ year old 1/2 blind leopard App (ALSO PLACED!!) with no teeth that is 1/2 way to his brand new feet, but I am guessing no one is interested in him (hence my need to find a new home for one that is more 'marketable'). Of course, I am hoping for a permanent home for this sweet mare, but understand if she needs to be placed later...just want to try to keep her out of the
killer markets. I will always be willing to take her back if needed.

I am located in North Georgia.

Thanks for any help you can give.
