Out Of The Box by Cindy "Hawk" Sullivan This
8 1/2" x 5 1/2" booklet was
written as a brief overview of the basics of natural horse keeping -
including hoof care. It was born out of the need for a quick reference
guide for owners who have just started on the path of natural hoof
care. For those who are just curious to know what "barefoot" is all
about,
this booklet provides enough information for them to start thinking and
asking questions.
Benefit to practitioners: Usually the first visit from a natural hoof care provider contains a mind-numbing amount of information on what to do and what not to do according to natural hoof and horse care principles - much of which is contrary to what most people have always thought was the right thing to do for their horses. Most people will not remember everything the practitioner said and while books are generally recommended to the owner, it requires that they buy them, then read through hundreds of pages in an effort to distill out the basics. To offset countless hours of phone calls from new customers asking, "Now, what did you say about....?" Practitioners can hand out a booklet on the first visit for owners to reference as they begin the learning process. Space is designated on the back cover for professionals to place their name and contact information. This allows the booklet to also serve as an advertising tool that can be placed at local feed and tack stores, or anywhere horse people gather. Inside preview Format: Booklet, full color Availability: Ready to ship! They will be available in packets of 10. Cost : $20.00 per pack of ten booklets, plus shipping |

The relationship between the horse and mankind is thousands of years old, but it is only in the last half century that we have begun to seriously study the core behaviors which make up the 'nature' of those animals that we use. Many management
methods in use today have their origins in the days before new
disciplines such as Ethology, Socio-biology and Comparative Psychology
arose, yet it is these disciplines that have offered us an
understanding of both animal and human nature, and insights into how
behavior can best be understood, and behavioral problems overcome.
Holistic and
behavior based management now offers the very best possible opportunity
to harmonize how we keep and use horses with their innate nature.

| Out of the Hoof The Genesis of Equine Soundness by Cindy "Hawk" Sullivan This book intends to pull the
reader out of obsession at the hoof as a means to bring about
equine soundness. I have long believed that the lessons from the
wild first introduced to me by Jaime Jackson, then enhanced by my own
observations of wild horses, teach us that if we can get the
environment and lifestyle of the domestic horse right, then what we do
at the foot is completely secondary and in many cases of minimal
importance. I often tell new clients as well as student trimmers that
if you just get "the trim" halfway right, as long as you set up the
environment and lifestyle properly, the horse will correct the rest.
Our job as practitioners is to REMOVE the barriers imposed by
conventional boarding practices to allow the horse to heal and set his
body right.
With the exception of a section with some interesting cases, this book is not about how to trim horses. Rather, it is a comprehensive and informative manual about what to look for and how to address the REST of the horse and his lifeway to assure he is sound from the inside out, and the top down. It is my hope that equine professionals of all disciplines, particularly in the veterinary and farriery industries, will view this work as a tool to break out of the myopic tunnel vision that so plagues the treatment of equine lameness. We must become diligent detectives in searching for the source of problems and be more willing to step back to let the horse heal himself, rather than being obsessed craftsmen trying to address lameness only at the foot. ~ Cindy Sullivan

Thundering
Hooves
Variations
of
Natural
Equine
Hoof
Form
by Cindy "Hawk" Sullivan, et. al.
Thundering Hooves is a large
"coffee table" style book full of vibrant images of wild horses in
different biomes around the world. Readers will be treated to a visual
exploration of variations of both the wild horses and their hooves as
they are forged in their specific habitats.
The author and her associates have
dedicated themselves to "touring"
different regions both in the U.S. and abroad where feral equines still
roam free with an interest in studying how different types of
environmental conditions impact hoof form and how they differ among the
regions. For example: readers will be able to compare the feet of high
desert wild horses with those that live on coastal barrier island.
The intent of this pictorial "journey" is to offer a "peek" into nature's variety and the variations in hoof form and function from region to region. The premise of this book is that adaptation in feral hoof form is clearly environmentally determined, from the terrain, to the diet. Different biomes produce different types of feet, yet hooves that are healthy, sound, and perfectly suited to those horses living in that place. Thundering Hooves will add to the perspective of hoof care professionals in their efforts to apply the principles of natural hoof care to the domestic horses in their area.
